What to Expect During an MRI Scan
An MRI scan, or magnetic resonance imaging scan, is a diagnostic procedure that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues in your body. It's a painless and non-invasive procedure that can be used to diagnose a wide range of conditions, including cancer, heart disease, and musculoskeletal injuries.
If your doctor has ordered an MRI scan, you may be feeling a little anxious about what to expect. This blog post will walk you through the procedure, explaining what happens before, during, and after the scan.
Preparing for Your MRI Scan
Your doctor will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for your MRI scan. This may include abstaining from food or drink for a certain period of time before the scan. Let your doctor know about any medications you're taking, as well as any allergies or medical conditions you have.
During the MRI Scan
You will lie down on a table that is then slid into the MRI machine. The machine is a large, cylindrical tube that is open on both ends. You'll be given earplugs or headphones to wear, as the machine makes loud tapping or banging noises during the scan. It's crucial to lie as still as possible during the scan, as movement can blur the images.
After the MRI Scan
Once the scan is complete, you can resume your normal activities. A radiologist will review your images and send a report to your doctor, who will then discuss the results with you.
